There are two stories in this necklace and other pieces from this collection. One story is about the beads used – in particular African Trade beads which I find to be so special. I’ve used red Venetian trail beads, old European mini-moon beads, Venetian tabular beads, and Cameroon bronze beads ranging in age from the late 1800’s to present times. I’ve added contemporary elements – a drop-dead gorgeous lemon quartz bead at the center, ametrine, Swarovski crystal, and amazonite.
The second story comes from my visit to Haiti where I saw such raw beauty in the sails of the fishing boats. Their colors, their pride, however weathered and worn, spoke to me and I see these beads and this design as a reflection of how I felt about Haiti. A handmade chain crafted from double loops of brass wire, darkened to add the look of age, completes the necklace design.
This ethnic eclectic artisan necklace is 21” long and closes with a gold-filled lobster clasp. This treasure, a modern heirloom that harkens back to other times, will arrive carefully packed in a Bead Dreamer jewelry box.
